One of the worst feelings you have as a professional athlete is the feeling after losing a game to a team that you should have beaten. That happened last night against the lowly Boston Celtics. They had only won 13 games the whole year and were really struggling. We had just come off a very good win against the Orlando Magic on the road and were feeling good about ourselves. The day did not start out good for us when we learned that T-Mac was going to miss the game with the flu. When you lose your best players (Yao, T-Mac) everyone must play a little harder and do a little bit more on the floor. We inserted Bonzi Wells into the lineup (he was the only one to have a good game for us), in place of T-Mac. It was a nasty game. We are usually one of the best three point shooting teams in the NBA and we only made 1 of 22 three point shots! I have never seen that happen. Never! Rafer Alston, Luther Head, and me combined to shoot 5 of 33 from the field. Ouch! You aren't going to win too many games like that. Even as poorly as we shot the ball, we STILL had a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter but failed to make the winning plays that you must make to leave the floor victorious. In the locker room after the game, everybody felt terrible. When we play a bad game, we feel that we let our teammates down. There is a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach when you leave the gym and you just want to go home and not talk to anyone. It is a terrible feeling, but it is a feeling that makes you want to try harder and do better the next time. I'll talk to you guys later.Shane 小题1:What is the passage mainly about?A.To blame the team for losing the game.B.To tell the readers about the feeling after losing the gameC.To explain why they played poorly in the game.D.To blame Yao Ming and T—Mac for being absent from the game.小题2: What can the readers learn from the text? A. The Boston Celtics is one of the top teams in NBA.B. The Boston Celtics had a big win over the writer’s team.C. Every one of the team played poorly with no energy.D. Bonzi Wells starts in the game with T-Mac out.小题3: How do you think the writer might describe his performance that night?A.ToughB.RelaxingC.TerribleD.Efficient小题4:The text most probably comes from the writer’s _________ .A.blogB.telephone messageC.noteD.interview

My first full-time job after high school was selling vacation packages via the telephone for a well-known company. One day, I was put through to a man who sounded a bit out of breath. I started with my normal pitch (音高), expecting to hear the normal reply —"I don’t want any."Instead, he spoke in a faint, weak voice and told me how he wished to take a vacation I was offering, but he couldn’t because he was dying of illness. He explained how he was lacking in oxygen then, and it took almost all his energy to answer the call. He asked if I smoked, which I did, and begged me to stop. He told me smoking was what was killing him. He told me to spend every day with my loved ones, and tell them how much I love them. At this point, I couldn’t control myself. We ended the call, but I held on my phone to prevent another call coming in so I could collect myself.I wrote down his name and address, and sent him a card appreciating his advice and praying for him and his family. Shortly after, I received a letter from Frank, along with a picture of him and his wife. We continued to write back and forth over the next few months, and became very fond of each other. He was old enough to be my grandfather, and in many ways, I felt as if he was.About a year later I received a letter from his wife. When I started to read, tears came to my eyes. She told me how Frank’s battle with the disease had finally come to an end, and he passed away shortly before the Christmas. She wanted to thank me for the letters to Frank, and explained how Frank touched many lives over the years. At his funeral, to show just that, they read the 1st letter I had written to Frank to show how he affected a 19-year-old he’d never met.小题1: The author was then probably working for ______.A.a travel agencyB.a cigarette companyC.an e-shopping storeD.a vacation school小题2:The underlined part "collect myself" in the second paragraph probably means "_______".A.gather togetherB.comfort myselfC.relax myselfD.calm down小题3: What can we infer from the text?A.Frank was in hospital while answering the phone.B.Frank is actually the author’s grandfather.C.There was something wrong with Frank’s lung.D.The author asked Frank to travel and he took his advice.小题4: We can learn from the text that the author ________.A.took down Frank’s name and address to visit him in personB.was warmly welcomed by her customers when she called themC.didn’t stop smoking even though Frank asked him toD.kept in touch with Frank through letters until he died小题5:At Frank’s funeral the author’s 1st letter to Frank was read in order to ____.A.encourage people to fight against disease and live bravelyB.indicate that Frank touched many people’s heartsC.show the good relationship between Frank and the authorD.praise Frank and give thanks to the author

Robert Ballard was born in 1942. From an early age, he loved the sea. Ballard grew up in Southern California. He spent his free time at the beach near his home. He enjoyed fishing and swimming. He even learned to dive. When Ballard wasn’t at the ocean, he loved reading about it. At age 10, he read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, a book which describes the undersea adventures of Captain Nemo. Ballard decided he wanted to be like Captain Nemo when he grew up. His parents helped him follow his dream. Ballard was a hardworking student. He spent many years learning all he could about the ocean. By the age of 28, he was an expert. In 1970, he took a job as a scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Massachusetts. There he studied underwater mountains of the Atlantic Ocean. He came up with ways to predict(预知)volcanoes under the oceans. Working with other scientists, Ballard also found previously(以前)unknown sea animals. These animals lived far below the ocean’s surface, where scientists had believed no animals could live.By the 1980s, Ballard’s interests changed. He developed unmanned(无人的)vehicles to explore the ocean bottom. His first find, the well-known ship Titanic, made Ballard famous. He was not happy with just one big find, however. He looked for — and found — other well-known ships. One was the German battleship Bismarck. Another was the U.S.S. Yorktown, an aircraft carrier (航空母舰) that sank during World War II.Today Robert Ballard is still an underwater explorer. He also heads an organization that encourages students to learn about science.
