What are the basic elements of good manners?Certainly a strong sense of justice is one;courtesy(礼貌) is often
more than a highly developed sense of fair play.A friend of mine once told me of

,"said the other driver. "But you've endured my dust this far; I'll
with yours the rest of the way."
Another element of courtesy is empathy(善解人意),a
that enables a person to see into the mind or heart of someone else,to understand the pain or

he couldn't do it because of badly injured
.He asked a young busboy to help him. The boy took the bottle, turned his back
and loosened the cap without difficulty. Then he
it again. Turning back to the man,he
to make great efforts to open the bottle without success.
he took it into the kitchen and returned shortly, saying that he had managed to loosen it - but only with a pair of pliers (钳子).
Yet another component of politeness is the ability to treat all people
, regardless of all status or importance.
when you have doubts about some people , act as if they are worthy of your best manners. You may also be astonished to find out that they really are.

第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 A
Looking back on my childhood, I am convinced that naturalists are born and not made. Although we were all brought up in the same way, my brothers and sisters soon abandoned their pressed flowers and insects. Unlike them, I had no ear for music and language. I was not an early reader and could not do mental arithmetic.
Before World War I we spent our summer holidays in Hungary. I have only the dim memory of the house we lived in, of my room and my toys. Nor do I recall clearly the large family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who gathered next door. But I do have a crystal dear memory of the dogs, the farm animals, the local birds and, above all, the insects.
I am a naturalist, not a scientist. I have a strong love of the natural world, and my enthusiasm has led me into varied investigations. I love discussing my favorite topics and enjoy burning the midnight oil while reading about other people's observations and discoveries. Then something happens that brings these observations together in my conscious mind. Suddenly you fancy you see the answer to the riddle because it all seems to fit together. This has resulted in my publishing 300 papers and books, which some might honor with the title of scientific research.
But curiosity, a keen eye, a good memory and enjoyment of the animal and plant world do
one of the outstanding and essential qualities required is elf-discipline, a quality I lack. A scientist requires not only self-disciplined but hard training, determination and a goal. A scientist, up to a point, can be made. A naturalist is born. If you can combine the two, you get the best of both worlds.
56. According to the first paragraph, we can learn _____.
A. the writer didn't like his brothers and sisters at all.
B. the writer showed great interest in flowers and insects in his childhood.
C. the writer lost his sense of hearing when he was a child.
D. the writer did very well in both languages and mental arithmetic.
57. Why can't the writer remember clearly his relatives according to the text?
A. Because he was too young when he lived with them.
B. Because he didn't like them at all at the moment.
C. Because he fully devoted himself to observing nature.
D. Because his family was then extremely large.
58. According to the writer, the basic quality for a scientist is ___.
A. self-discipline
B. determination
C. curiosity
D. enthusiasm
59. What element is the author emphasizing when he says " A naturalist is born."
A. Self-discipline
B. Training
D. InterestB These cameras are everywhere and most are openly visible on roads, in airports, businesses, shopping centres and government buildings and even in lifts. Even schools have started using spy cams to watch student activity and behavior.
The cameras are so common now that we hardly ever even notice them. But the problem lies with the ones that are hidden away from our eyes and are unseen. Technology has helped develop tiny cameras that can be very well hidden and they can 'spy' on shoppers, workers, babysitters and people in hotels and clubs without the people even knowing.
It is these spy cams that people feel are an invasion of privacy. Recently, in the U.S., there have been a number of court cases against babysitters whose actions have been recorded by their employers on hidden cameras.
The number of cameras in public and private areas is on the increase and with rising crime rates and the recent terrorist attacks, more and more surveillance cameras are being used to watch us. This means that we all have to be aware that our employers, department stores, police and even some of our friends could be spying on us at any time!
60. In the writer's opinion, surveillance cameras _______.
A. do more good than wrong
B. are overused
C. should be very popular
D. ought to be more widely used
61. In what way can the surveillance camera benefit the public?
A. By helping keep social safety.
B. By monitoring the employees.
C. By watching the students in class.
D. By spying on customers.
62. According to paragraphs 3 and 4, people ______ the use of hidden cameras.
A. object to
B. agree to
C. feel happy about
D. are fearful of
63. Spy cams will be more widely used in the future because _______.
A. all people want to spy
B. of the invasion of privacy
C. people enjoy being watched
D. of terrorist attacksC If women are mercilessly exploited(剥削) year after year, they have only themselves to blame. Because they tremble at the thought of being seen in public in clothes that are out of fashion, they are always taken advantage of by the designers and the big stores. Clothes which have been worn only a few times have to be put aside because of the change of fashion.
Changing fashions are nothing more than the intentional creation of waste. Many women spend large sums of money each year to replace clothes that have hardly been worn. Women who cannot afford to throw away clothing in this way, waste hours of their time changing their old-fashioned dresses. Skirts are len neck-lines are lowered or raised, and so on.
No one can claim that the fashion industry contributes anything really important to society. Fashion designers are rarely concerned with necessary things like warmth, comfort and durability (耐用). They are only interested in outward appearance and they take advantage of the fact that women will put up with any amount of discomfort, as long as they look right. There can hardly be a man who hasn't at some time in his life smiled at the sight of a woman shaking in a thin dress on a winter day, or picking her way through deep snow in high heeled shoes.
When comparing men and women in the matter of fashion, the conclusions to be drawn are obvious. Do the constantly changing fashions of women's clothes, one wonders, reflect basic qualities of inconstancy and instability? Men are too clever to let themselves be cheated by fashion designers. Do their unchanging styles of dress reflect basic qualities of stability and reliability(稳定耐用)? That is for you to decide.
64. Designers and big stores always make money_________.
A. by mercilessly exploiting women workers in the clothing industry
B. because they are capable of predicting new fashions
C. by constantly changing the fashions in women's clothing
D. because they attach great importance to quality in women's clothing
65. To the writer, the fact that women change their old-fashioned dresses is seen as ___________.
A. a waste of money
B. a waste of time
C. an expression of taste
D. an expression of creativity
66. New fashions in clothing are created for ___________.
A. the commercial exploitation of women
B. the women's strength of character
C. basic qualities of inconstancy and instability
D. an important contribution to society
67. By saying "the conclusions to be drawn are obvious" ( Line One to Line Two, Paragraph Four), the writer means that ___________.
A. women's inconstancy in their choice of clothing is often laughed at
B. women are better able to put up with discomfort
C. men are also exploited greatly by fashion designers
  D. men are more reasonable in the matter of fashion D
When the musical sound rings out,you immediately reach for your pocket ready to have a chat. But although you probably use it all the time, have you ever stopped to think about the manners related to talking on the phone? If you haven't,here are some tips to guide you.
●Always give the person you are calling plenty of time to get to the phone before you hang up.If the person who answers is not the one you want, give your name and ask if you may speak to the person you want.
●Think about the time you call people.Try not to call too early in the morning(before about 9:00)or too late at night(after about 9:30).Also try not to call at mealtimes.

●If you go to a theatre,a concert or a cinema, consider the other people around you.Check that your phone is "off" before you enter. If you are expecting a very important call, put your phone on "vibrate"(振动)and run for the exit as soon as you feel it.If you forget both "off" and "vibrate" and your phone rings, don't answer it,turn it off straight away.

The job paid three dollars for a 48-hour week. She walked two miles back and forth each day to save the five-cent bus-fare, and at night went to secondary school and later a city university. Eventually she worked her way up to buyer.
She and my father got married when they were nearly 40. A few years after their marriage, my parents fulfilled their dream of owning a home. To Mother, Buckingham Palace, the Venice canals and Shangri-La were all wrapped up in that six-room brick house in the Bronx. Then the Depression set in. Father's pub began to lose money, their savings declined to nothing. Daddy had to let the assistants go and began working 20-hour days and one morning in 1936 he didn't wake up. Mother was left with three children and a mortgage (抵押贷款).
Mother bore her grief and carried on. It was impossible to get a job in those times, so Mother came up a solution. A sign,"Furnished Rooms", was tacked onto the door, beginning a parade of people into our lives for the next five years.
One I remember fell two weeks behind in his rent and tried to tiptoe (踮着脚走) out at dawn. Unfortunately for him, Mother, who was always rearranging things, had moved the furniture the night before, and he tripped over a repositioned lamp. Mother rushed out to find him sprawled on the floor. "If you didn't have the money, you should have told me," she said. "God knows, I can understand that." He left with two dollars pressed into his hand."
All those things happened long ago but they are always fresh in my mind. And Mother is always in my heart.
72. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A. The author's mother was born in a family with seven children.

A. Old age
B. Depression
C. Overwork
D. Mortgage
74. The person who tried to tiptoe out ____.
A. paid the rent and left the house
B. was not willing to pay the rent though he had money.
C. paid the rent and had only two dollars left.
D. got two dollars instead of paying the rent
75. The author's mother did the following EXCEPT that ______.
A. she moved the lamp to another place one night
B. she put up an advertisement on the door.
C. she started to work at an early age to earn money

My classmates and I took part in a wildness survival program from July 10th to July 13th this summer.
Before we started, we were equipped with a compass, a map, a first-aid kit, tents, flashlights, some food, some clothes and so on. On the way we climbed three hills and swam across two rivers. We lost our way in the forest. Luckily we found the right direction with the compass. As soon as we arrived at the campsite, we put up our tents, made a fire and then started cooking. We also learned how to five first-aid.
Through the program, we learned to use knowledge gained in class to solve problems. It was quite an unforgettable experience for me.
