Even if it feels like a never ending christmas eve these days at do you read me?!, unpacking numerous parcels with lots of great publications day after day, we know for sure that Santa is not working at DHL/DPD/UPSorHERMES, maybe it’s the other way round…
Anyway, next year will be our 10th anniversary, unbelievable, and we’ll of course use this pleasent happening to celebrate with you, and hopefully get one or another project into action.
But in this last newsletter for 2017 we’d like to share some new titles with you, giving both a glimpse of now and what’s coming up. All the best to you and your loved ones, hope to see you again in 2018.

There are no homosexuals in Iran, or so do some people think, such as the former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who stated (in cocksure confidence) back in 2007 at Columbia University that “In Iran, we do not have homosexuals like in your country.” Inspired by her scepticism about the statement, young photographer Laurence Rasti flies to Denizli, a turkish town on the border with Iran where she interviewed and photographed dozens of gay Iranian men and women who are trapped between the hammer of oppression and the anvil of geography.

Entkunstung is an independent journal with a bold reflective attitude on the contemporary art scene. It was launched online exactly one year ago, and since then four issues were published before being compiled into this book. With 34 contributions in English and German, it is more of an artists’ intellectual forum in the form of a yearbook. The first of the four issues puts “art” as a notion into perspective and brings up the non-self-evidentiality of the power of artworks. Art, cannot thrive in isolation from the work of the philosopher, the academic or the theoretician. The second issue ponders on the relevance of knowledge and intelligence to the aesthetics of an art creation. The third issue basically tries to figure the extent to which artists should stay engaged in political matters pertinent to human rights and climate change. Whereas the last issue digs even deeper and explores the different meanings of power through analysis of everyday “power-ful” moments.

For the past sixty years the emergence of the “béton brut” architecture stroke a new trend and continues to impress the eye by the sheer magnitude and uncompromising mass of its structures. But the brutalist monuments are increasingly threatened by demolition or transformation. This comprehensive book is published jointly with the Deutsches Architekturmuseum exhibition on the topic, opening in November 2017 and running until 2nd of April 2018. It comprises analytical essays explaining the value and historical appeal these monuments have, in addition to a series of case studies on the brutalist Churches, post-war Japanese architecture, and an expansive section on how was brutalism expressed in each region of the world. (Available in English and German, and published together with “Brutalism – Contributions to the international symposium in Berlin 2012.”)
