2005年世界英语演讲冠军夏鹏：我是这样用The Economist学英文的！
首先，The Economist不是唯一的英语学习材料，同时也不是适合每一个人学习材料，但却能迅速帮助一个人成为优秀的英语使用者。这里，我要重点强调的是迅速、优秀和使用这三个概念。1. 的确，英语学习没有速效的方法，但市面上有着太多减缓你英语进步，甚至把你引入歧途的英语学习方式。因此，关于“速成”的学习方法，其最大功效就是不做负功。市面上错误的英语学习方法有两大类：其一，秘方速效救心丸类。针对的人群是病急乱投医或死马当活马医的人群，一般此类方法是通过讲座（李阳疯狂英语）或者图书来招揽信众。此类秘方一般售价较低，讲座是零成本，李阳靠卖书，最近靠卖手机来过活。这些教授速效方法的老师讲完就走，否则留下来的时间久了，容易露馅。其二，没有方法，唯有坚持，再来一碗上好的心灵鸡汤。这个说法比起上一类，真诚的多。甚至逻辑本身是没有错误的，但是学英语你总是会用一种方法的，至少你老师一定是用某种方法教了你。如果碰巧方法是对的，坚持定有收获。但如果方法是错的，一定是死无葬身之地。2. The Economist的文章之所以是优秀的英语学习材料，原因有二：其一、 能成为The Economist的记者，各个都是健笔文胆，遣词精当，造句熨帖，春秋笔法，微言大义。货币是衡量一个物品质量市场价值的最合理手段之一，The Economist薄薄一本杂志，远远超过很多厚厚的词汇语法书。一本杂志也可以卖到70多人民币，你就知道其读者的眼光多么挑剔。Learning from the best is the only way to become the best（若要成就卓越，就要向卓越的人学习）。其二、 苦逼的中国学生打小就开始背单词，但是能够记住并且正确使用的数量屈指可数。做起4选1的语法题势如破竹，但很难写出一个表达地道的句子，临考试了只能抱佛脚式的去背诵再也不会用的模板。原因何在？主要是因为学习的知识和能运用的技能之间差距太大。而The Economist的报道都是最新的时事话题，现学现用，不脱离时代。只要是能联系生活与实际的，学了就不会忘。英语说到底，是技能而不是知识。3. 优秀的英语使用者应该有什么特征？首先，听说读写译五项技能均衡发展。听力和阅读是基础。听力优秀的标准不是托福雅思高分，而是在日常状态下，你能听得各种人说的英语（不仅仅是美国和英国人）。所谓的日常状态，可能是办公室，可能是电话里，可能对方是一个法国人，或者印度人，可能是用skype去面试美国的学校，网络的速度也受到了影响。这么说吧，你现在听中文的感觉，天天和你说话的人不是央视的播音员，也没有给你4选1的题目，更不会给你发一个耳机，更更不会在一段对话之后，突然第三个声音问你：刚在这个对话的主旨是什么？阅读的核心技术在于速度。不仅是看懂，应该是很快能看懂。阅读的速度和阅读量有直接关系。如果没有平常大剂量的阅读形成一种常态，辅之以相应的阅读技巧，即便是在GRE中取得阅读高分的同学，在《南方周末》和The International Herald Tribune之间仍旧本能的选择前者。因为，英文阅读对他来说，只是一种考试的工具，而不是一种生活中的习惯。英语口语，不是简单地发音问题。很多老师只能教你发音，是因为他的口语实在是太差了，说不出整段的有思想的话，只能不断的纠正你，th音要学会咬舌头。我特别喜欢看所谓的口语名师在老外面前出洋相，在国外连点个菜都要用上肢体语言。你th音发得再标准，有个毛用。口语讲究的是fluency（流利度）和communication（交流）。You know, you know, you know what I mean半天就是出不来实质性的内容，不能让对方觉得你是一个很好的conversationalist, 那我实在是不知道what do you know.写，下次容我开一篇专门的文章。简而言之，这是最难的part。Francis Bacon说过: Reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man, and writing an exact man. 写作讲求的是精准。不是长句难句倒装句，不是同义词替换，important到底有多少种用法。我大学（鄙人不才，中国头牌英语专业—南京大学英语系毕业）的写作老师曾经有过这样的比喻，好的笔头如枪头，枪头只扎一条线。古时沙场，兵器之王是长枪，被戳中，不管部位，枪尖进入皮肤数寸，无法缝合，只能等死。这就是写作的杀伤力。口语逼逼很久，写作往往只需要一个词。想第一时间接收英语演讲文章&视频？置顶精彩英语演讲就对了！操作办法就是：进入公众号——找到“置顶公众号”—— 开启。◆◆◆对公众号有建议或者好想法？请添加：speechplus随时勾搭英语演讲君目前170000+人已关注我们分享增长知识，点赞是一种鼓励 ！

(48) This alone demonstrates that the television business is not an easy world to survive in a fact underlined by statistics that show that out of eighty European television networks no less than 50% took a loss in 1989.　　Moreover, the integration of the European community will oblige television companies to cooperate more closely in terms of both production and distribution.　　(49) Creating a “European identity” that respects the different cultures and traditions which go to make up the connecting fabric of the Old continent is no easy task and demands a strategic choice - that of producing programs in Europe for Europe. This entails reducing our dependence on the North American market, whose programs relate to experiences and cultural traditions which are different from our own.　　In order to achieve these objectives, we must concentrate more on co-productions, the exchange of news, documentary services and training. This also involves the agreements between European countries for the creation of a European bank will handle the finances necessary for production costs.
