I word process, e-mail, surf the net, make purchases, and watch an occasional You Tube.
Also, I am a desktop kind of guy, preferring a full-sized screen and a keyboard I can angle to suit my own tastes. However, I began spending quite a bit of time 2,940 miles from home (long distance dating... whew) and I wanted my own reliable computer with me while I was spending weeks at a time away from my desktop.
Sooo... I decided that both reliability and a very easy to read screen were my top priorities.
My eyes just turned 64 and I chose a home monitor based on which one was the clearest with text.
At first, I was only looking for a 17" laptop because of this, but realized I would be sitting closer to it than to my monitor at home.
I decided the 15.6" flavor of laptop would be the way to go for me (and NO smaller) and I definitely wanted a full 1080p screen... NO less than that.
You may disagree with me here, but I decided that for reliability, I would go with either HP, Dell, or Asus.
(I have my own reason for Asus.)
I wanted OVER 4 gig of RAM, but didn't lose any sleep over it because I usually add RAM myself to any computer I buy anyway.
I DID hesitate about this laptop not having an optical drive, but realized I have an external drive I bought awhile back to load things into my (now very seldom used) 10" netbook.
Yup, I was easily able to load the things I wanted to load into this Dell using that drive for which I paid less than $30.
So, this Dell was one of my three brands, it had a 1080p screen, it had more than enough RAM and a large enough hard drive that I wouldn't fill it in 20 years!
Then, I saw the clearance price, and said to myself "Are you kidding me?"
The only thing I could find that even came close was a unit from Costco, but that involved a deliver charge and sales tax, which this Dell did not (plus I have dealt with Adorama before for photo equipment, and they are fine).
So, long story short, I ordered this computer, and have not regretted it a day.
I even took the chance of disappointment and continued to check for better deals on acceptable laptops since then, but nothing has come close for the money.
This computer has not failed me in any way whatsoever.
I was really trying to NOT get Windows 8.1, but decided that to get a touchscreen (not a necessity, but perhaps fun), it might be a necessary evil.
I ordered it because I knew I could "upgrade" to Windows 10 within a few months anyway, plus I pretty much have it running like Windows 7 anyway.
(Let's hope MicroSoft doesn't make Windows 10 one of their "bummer" releases.)
All in all, nice product, good vendor, and exceptional price for this laptop.by Everything I expected and more for the money.The Dell Inspiron 15 16.6" Notebook is everything I expected and more.
It is plenty fast enough for all of my applications and I could not have found a better touch screen computer for this price anywhere. It is light weight and the back lit screen is great too.
The caps Lock has a separate light when caps are on.
Which helps a lot.

I doubt I will ever run out of space. My previous computer always from the day it was new ran out of ram when using google chrome.
