We recommend the Mexicans favorite taco al pastor, tacos filled with marinated pork. If you’re into burritos, try a taco de harina, with the filling of your preference. You’re really hungry? Try the taco loco.
La Perla Pixan Cuisine & Mezcal Store
La Perla Pixan Cuisine and Mezcal Store: make your dinner a whole Mexican experience. You can go with exotic snacks like “chapulines” (grasshoppers) or, if you feel less adventurous, try the tamales. Tamales are corn dough filled with meet, sweet pepper or mole, steamed in banana or corn leafs.
La Parrilla MEXICAN GRILL
La Parilla: a place that entertains you with live Mariachi music. One of their specialties is cochinita pibíl, the most traditional plate of the Yucatán peninsula. It is made of pork meat baked in banana leafs, and marinated with Mayan seeds and spices.
Mandala Playa del Carmen
Mandala: at two blocks from Playa Palms Beach Hotel,
at the corner with the 1st Avenue, is a multi-level nightclub, with a huge Buddha statue watching over the scene. Continue to stroll down the 12th street towards Playa Palms Beach Hotel, and on your left you will pass by the cow-themed La Vaquita Club, where after your first 1-liter-drink you stop wondering about the huge plastic cows hanging from the ceiling. These clubs play mostly dance music, Reggaeton and Hip Hop.
La Santanera
Santanera: one block away, at the 10th street between 5th and 10th Avenue. From the neon DJ-Jesus telling you that “you are forgiven” to the spectacular view from the top floor, and the excellent electronic music playing until after sunrise, this club sure is a unique experience. Ask at the front desk of Playa Palms Beach Hotel for your free entrance plus welcome drink.
Tequila Barrel
If you want to watch your game enjoying a tasty burger in a fun atmosphere, this is your place to be. In the outside seating area it’s more about the party. But inside you can watch just about anything that can be called sport, with main focus on US events, and even bet on the sports that are shown. Tequila Barrel is only a few walking minutes from Hotel Playa Palms, right on the 5th Avenue, between 10th and 12th street.
Legends Sport Bar
This is probably one of the local’s favorite sports bar. They have, believe it or not, 13 TVs and one giant screen where you can watch your game of choice. You can check out online which sporting events they are screening and they also have a billiard table. The bar is located on the 16th street, between the Avenues 10 and 15.
