2015年的考研时间再度提前，研究生初试时间从来年1月提前到今年12月底。除此以外政策变动最大的是取消高校招收保送生名额限制。
根据教育部文件，2015年全国硕士研究生招生考试初试时间确定为：日至29日，同时将在报考时尚未毕业、但在录取当年9月1日前可取得本科毕业证书的自学考试和网络教育本科生纳入准考考生范围。考研时间虽然每年都在提前，但2015年考研初试首次将来年的入学考试提前到今年。
2014年起，教育部下达推免名额时不再区分学术学位和专业学位，不再设置留校限额。推荐高校也不得对本校推免名额限制学术学位与专业学位报考类型，不得自行设置留校限额或名额。取消各招生单位招收推免生数量不得超过本单位硕士研究生招生计划的50%的限制。
2014年的研究生考试备考期里，少数考研培训班开出高价，声称拥有独到的人脉资源，可以接触到命题教授、面试考官，借此吸引考生并收取高额费用。日，教育部召开视频会议，全面部署考试安全工作，要求各部门须重点清理整顿考试培训机构“助考”行为，考研复试时须全程录像。
在开考的前一个月，网上出现有人出售截止到2014年11月份的130万考研用户的信息。卖家所出售的数据可不光涉及到考研用户的姓名、性别，而是包含一系列敏感数据，并且卖家已经是二道贩子、三道贩子，甚至更多，也就说相关信息已经被多次转卖。不少考研报名者已经多次接到骚扰电话：卖考题、卖答案、办培训班。
虽然2015年大学毕业生再创新高，不过考研人数却出现下滑趋势。2015年研究生考试现场确认后，河北、甘肃、内蒙古、广东、黑龙江均传出报名人数减少消息。调查人数下降原因与考研政策变化有关，公费取消和保研人数不受限制打击考生积极性。另外，今年的就业形势导致研究生就业率不高于本科生的现象，也使得本想通过读研提高自己在就业市场的竞争力的同学放弃了考研的念头。
