It is the first business/interview podcast to pass 100,000,000 downloads, and it has been selected as “Best of” iTunes for three years running (In 2016 under “most downloaded”).

Each episode, I deconstruct world-class performers from eclectic areas (investing, sports, business, art, etc.) to extract the tactics, tools, and routines you can use.
This includes favorite books, morning routines, exercise habits, time-management tricks, and much more.
Aside from promo impact (often , or ), guests enjoy the show because it’s friendly, long-form, and they have final cut before audio is published. This leads to extremely open, raw interviews and — paradoxically — fewer edits.
Here is a good overview from The Observer: “”
Salon has included the podcast in their list of “suggestions to make you remember the world can be a good place.”
It’s about positive tactics you can use, not “gotchas” or other B.S.. The Internet has enough of that, and I wanted to do something to reverse the trend.

Format: Kindle Edition|Verified PurchaseThis was one of the best books I read this year. It is a unique and interesting story and is well written. Another interesting thing about the book is that the story and surrounding events give the reader a real glimpse into America and American culture at beginning of the 20th century. Because it is based upon fact, the ending was not what I had hoped it would be but it cannot be helped. However, there does appear to be a good deal of &you reap what you sew& or &Karma& that comes into play and provides a sort of justice in the end. I think that we often romanticize the past a bit and are disgusted by some of the behavior of modern society. We think that &cons& and &scam artists& are something of modern life. Unfortunately, this book reminds us that the more things change, the more they stat the same. Such behavior may change stylistically with the times but there are still good and bad people in all periods of history. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and when I look back at the nearly 80 books I have read this year, it is one of the books that I remember fondly. I will note that there is one point, at approximately 100 pages into the book where there is a lull. I was concerned that the book was going to settle into a rut and that I had already read the interesting part of the book and that there was nothing significant left to learn. I thought of reading something different. I am glad that I did not. I pushed on and the story soon picked up and made me glad I stuck with it. If you are looking for something that is a bit different than your standard thriller or pop culture book without being stuffy, boring, romantic or even overly sentimental, this is a great read. I suppose it would fall under the heading of history but it reads like a novel. This is a worthwhile book.
||Format: Hardcover|Verified PurchaseMy wife got me your book for Xmas, and I can't put it down.
If someone were to capsulize the book for me, I don't think I' the real story defies a simple summary.First, 1905 seems like the year American capitalist civilization hung in the balance.
The sport of watching tribal people kill and eat dogs is not that far removed from Roman gladiator spectacles.
Lost Tribe portrays an era of impressionable Americans that are easily (autocorrect says, "sleazily"!) swayed by external whims and fancies.
We seemed in that era to be vulnerable to the smoldering, global fascism/bolshevism we now feel so historically superior to.
(It's also worth noting how novel the idea of human anthropology is, just a century ago.
The spectators looking for the tails on the backs of the Filipinos reminds me of Othello's claim to have lived among men whose "heads grow beneath their shoulders").I also love the nascent role of media in defining our cultural consciousness.
This is set in 1905, seven years after Remember The Maine, a time when xenophobic prejudice spread like a smoke blinding our whole country.
The impossibility of viewing the Igorrotes as fellow humans is perpetuated by their treatment and dramatization as sideshow freaks living among/like animals (as blacks were viewed as a result of Jim Crow minstrel shows). I teach in a high school with a high Filipino population, and, believe me, to this day they still have to live down the Dogeater tag...This leads to what interested me most: How media brainwash inspired one of our country's leading industries.
The US entertainment industry seems to start in Coney Island: Disneyland, Hollywood, Vegas, NFL,...the competing parks at Coney Island (Dreamland, Steeplechase and Luna Park, each distinct only in the way Vegas casinos are) all offered fantastic escape in the safety of home.
Danger where you don' fantasy grounded in t transportation in the comfort of home. The eagerness of consumers of ALL classes to ditch their skepticism and embrace insulated fantasy would teach future entrepreneurs of the money making potential in the vulnerable American consciousness.
||Format: Kindle Edition|Verified PurchaseIn this day and age, when even &i>The Greatest Show on Earth&/i> is promising to quit exhibiting elephant it’s difficult to get one’s head around a time—just a little more than a century ago—when &i>human zoos&/i> were the most popular attractions at carnivals, fairs and amusement parks.
THE LOST TRIBE OF CONEY ISLAND: Headhunters, Luna Park, and the Man Who Pulled Off the Spectacle of the Century, by Claire Prentice is a poignant look at that era.The goodreads.com synopsis of this book says, in part, “Readers of Erik Larson will love this tale of sex, greed, and the American dream…”
I am a reader, and a fan, of Eric Larson, and, although the writing isn’t really up to Larson’s caliber, but for the overwhelming sadness of the cruel and ruthless victimization of the fifty-one, gullible and defenseless Bontoc Igorrotes Filipinos, whose story this is, I did quite enjoy the glimpses of history and culture of this tale. What I don’t understand is why this &i>tribe&/i> of &i>“headhunting, dog-eating savages”&/i> didn’t lop off the head of the perfidious, self-delusional, huckster Truman K. Hall.
I &i>might&/i> have cheered, if they had.Recommendation:
It’s a bit of a slog in places, but worth the effort.Kindle edition, 390 pages
||Format: Kindle Edition|Verified PurchaseThis book is simply incredible.
The author has discovered a forgotten historical event, and turned it into an engaging, stranger than fiction, book.
I was not only thoroughly entertained, but also feel like I learned a lot about the culture of the period.
One gripe is that the author sometimes seems to be taking liberties in assuming what the "characters" in the book were thinking.
This seemed a bit odd for a nonfiction book.
It would have been inexcusable if the book were covering major historical figures or events.
But since this book is almost like a novel (albeit a novel describing real events in a lost era),
I got used to the slightly fictionalized style.
