第一话：为战士们做些事　　2003年前，西沙永兴岛上只有两部公共卫星电话，所有人打电话必须排长队。当岛上移动基站开通的那一刻，在场的官兵沸腾了，大家把所有的手机放在窗台上一字排开充电，谁想打电话就拔掉充电器直接用，打完了继续充电。

第二话：留下来，干完再说！　　2008年10月，西沙中建岛。受台风影响，岛上的通信中断近四个月，迫切需要修复。而海军补给船最多只能等他们三个小时。但这远远不够。苏训和队员们心里清楚：如果错过这艘船，至少要再等一个月。

　　“既然来了，就一定要把基站修好，大不了在这里蹲一个月。 ” 苏训最终做了决定。在一个面积约1平方公里的岛礁上生活一个月，即使对士兵和渔民来说，都是一个艰难的考验。食物、水、床，所有这些，足以困住毫无准备的他们。
　　补给船渐渐驶出视野，苏训和同事们都没多留恋一眼，饭都顾不得吃，一直干到夜里10点多，岛上的通信恢复了！看着士兵们在欢呼声中轮流把电话打到千里外的家中，苏训和队友们也禁不住击掌相庆。

第三话：生死就在一瞬间　　2012年2月中旬，春节刚过，吴勇鹏和队友吴经就接到了前往南沙“七礁八岛”开展基站巡视和维护工作的任务。当两人顺利抵达美济礁时，意想不到的情况发生了……

　　由于礁盘附近海水较浅，补给船只能停在外海，他们需要换乘皮艇前往美济礁。去的时候很顺利，回来时却突然起浪了皮艇在浪中漂来漂去，难以靠近补给船。此时又偏偏下起暴雨，在海浪和雨水的折腾下，二人被困在皮艇上两个多小时。
　　这还不算完，当二人跟随补给船返回时，却因风浪过大，无法进港。拖船都没办法靠近补给船。他们只能通过临时架设的悬桥，从小艇转移到拖船上，期间稍不留意就可能跌进海里。过悬桥时，吴经回忆一大包行李差点掉到海里，而自己压根都不敢伸手去抓。

　　在海上，有时风浪过大，小船根本无法靠近大船，必须等到浪小一点，大船将浪挡在礁湾的外面，小船才得以靠近。当浪峰将小船推到最高处时，船长一声令下“跳！”船上的人必须同时完成朝大船跳跃的动作，如若不然，便很容易被夹在两船之间毙命。
