不管still和only，只看句子的主干，也就是it would be carrying...用would是因为if the bridge were packed with cars是假设的情况，因此需要用虚拟语气，但其实它的含义也就是相当于一般将来时中的will 。除去虚拟语气不看 这就是一句很普通的将来进行时的句子了，之所以用进行时，是British English的一种习惯用法，其实此处并没有特别强调“正在”的意思。而类似的含将来进行时的句子，在NCE中可以找到很多，同样是有的确实为了强调“正在”，有的则仅仅是作者的语气。

ching chong指的是福建口音或者是广东口音的“清朝”这个词ching chong是北美长达数十年排华史的最经典的一个代表，Rosie O'Donnell在ABC一个The View节目中，用ching chong嘲笑中国人讲话，引起华裔和亚裔团体的极大愤慨，纽约市华裔市议员刘醇逸曾致信抗议，没有到过北美的人可能理解不到，即便那些从小在这里长大打死都不承认自己是中国人的ABC、CBC们，，但大多数时候没有人关心它的字面意思，姚明也被奥尼尔骂过“Ching chong yang wah ah soh”，这句话没有字面意思，只是羞辱而已。不管你的政治立场是什么，Ching chong再一次恬不知耻大喇喇的出现在媒体上，这是不止是华裔连大部分亚裔都无法宽恕的。
