The Inspiron 580 has been tested with the below processors.
Intel(R) Pentium(TM) G6950Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 - 530, 540&Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 - 750, 650
Your findings in relation to the processor being compatible is correct. However, since the processor has not been tested on this platform, I am unable to assure you 100% flawless functionality.

Hello CSANDREAS1,
As I advised earlier the only processors that have been tested are listed above. You may install the i5 750 as this has been tested. The i5 760 should also ideally work, however, there is negligible performance difference between the two. The only place the 760 wins is the low power consumption.

I read a guy's post in dell forums that he confirmed his motherboard supported an i7 870. If he is correct and i7 870 work for those motherboards, wil xeon x3470 which are similar to the i7 work too ?
