For many, Taiwanese and expats alike, Kenting means sunny beaches and not much more.
In fact,there are not only (sometime overrated) beaches but also a nature lush and diverse, fully tropical - Kenting is located below the Tropic of Cancer, among coconut palms and pandanus trees.
The landscape is simply beautiful. Part of the area is an ancient coral reef, that was uplifted to form a plateau gently sloping toward the sea.
The plateau is crisscrossed with a maze of mysterious caverns and small ravines, where huge banyan trees put down their roots.
A magic place, covered by a thick forest and windy grasslands.
From the top of the hills the view is wide. This is one of the very few places in Taiwan that gives me a feeling of vast landscapes.
The beaches of Kending are not bad at all.
But they are not the tropical paradises they look like in too many &cosmetic& photos. This is not Malaysia nor Thailand!
The largest beach, Dawan (Great Bay), has long been accessible only to the guests of Chateau Hotel. Not anymore, now this Kenting beach is accessible to all through the hotel premises.
Other beaches in the area are the animated Nanwan (Southern Bay), that boasts a splendid view on the nuclear power plant (!) and Xiaowan (Small Bay), just below the Caesar Park Hotel.
The hidden gem of Kenting, however, by all accounts, is the relatively isolated Baisha Beach (White Sands), lined with coconut palms and casuarina trees. During the off season, you may be the only visitors to the beach.
Shadao Beach, a tiny nature reserve, and Jialeshuei, the surfer's beach on the Pacific coast, complete the picture of kending beaches.
Kenting is the surfing capital of Taiwan. You can rent boards everywhere.

英语翻译My wife and I decided to take a weekend trip to Kenting.The day before our vacation,we went on a shopping spree to buy new clothes and supplies.We splurged and ended up spending more than the entire trip cost!My wife bought the most expensive swimsuit in the department store.I got a pair of designer sunglasses.We bought new,matching suitcases.The morning after,we packed our bags,made sure the lights were off and locked up the house.The weather was sunny and beautiful in Kenting,and our hotel suite was perfect.That first day,we hit the beach,swam,drank and danced.We had the time of our lives.When we got back to our room,however,our dream vacation ended.Someone had broken into our room.They stole everything:our nice suitcases,our brand-new clothes,my wallet and her purse.The only things the thieves hadn't taken were my razor and our two toothbrushes!My wife and I were heartbroken.We searched the room,hoping to find something,anything,of ours.Under the bed,we found our camera.This cheered us up a bit.We were determined to make the best of a bad situation and enjoy the rest of our vacation.After all,the crooks had forgotten our camera.And we could at least brush our teeth that night and in the morning.The next day,we woke up and ordered a big breakfast in bed.After eating and washing up,we went paragliding,snorkeling and swimming.By night,we had forgotten about the thieves.We took lots of pictures with our camera."Don't use up the whole roll of film!" my wife warned.I looked at the camera counter and saw that we had only five shots left."That's strange," I said."I thought we put a new roll of film in the camera before we left."When we got back to Taipei,we took the film to be developed.Looking at the photos,we relived all the excitement of our vacation.Then my wife stared more closely at four of the snapshots.They were of our hotel bathroom."Did you take these?" she asked."No," I answered."Why would I want photos of the toilet?"We examined the pictures more closely.The first one showed the hotel bathroom's toilet.The second was of the inside of the toilet.When we looked closer,we could see our two toothbrushes in the toilet bowl.The third photo was taken after someone — the thieves — had "taken care of business." Our toothbrushes lay in the middle of the mess.The last picture showed our toothbrushes right back on the bathroom sink — where we picked them up that night and used them to brush our teeth for the next two days and nights.
