New Features
Soviet Union as playable faction
The Soviets are here! And they bring light tanks, medium tanks, a tank destroyer, a heavy tank, as well as a giant Anti-tank rifle, lots of new weapons, planes, paratroopers and a lot more that we have shown you in the last announcenments!
Weapon Balancing and NEW Weapon Upgrades
We have rebalanced all weapons in game and now introduce an Improved Weapon Upgrade feature, with much easier to see effects. The old (and a bit confusing) weapon mod system has been retired and mods refunded. .
Resource Pooling, Supply Line Skirmish & Retreat
All units in a battle pool their resources, to make it easier to spawn and even out Assault Teams wins/losses. . Supply line skirmish missions are now started when two Assault teams meet on a supply line AND Assault teams can now retreat from battles by sacrificing some resources as a rear guard.

Having shown the Soviet Uniforms yesterday, and a lot of tanks in the previous posts, we also need something to protect the Soviet soldiers from attacks from enemy airplanes, AND give the infantry a way to defend themselves against enemy armor! So here is a presentation of the Maxim M4 Quad Anti-air setup and the PTRD 1941 Anti-Tank Rifle.
So here they are!
Maxim M4 Quad
While the Soviet anti-aircraft gun might look like something out of mad inventor’s workshop it is a very effective tool against low flying enemy airplanes.
4 water-cooled Maxim machineguns linked together can send a LOT of lead into the sky.
The PTRD is a Soviet anti-tank rifle. It is a single shot, bolt-action rifle, firing the massive 14.5x114mm round. While not very effective against heavy armor, it is very effective against lightly armored vehicles and you can carry more ammunition.
For heavier tanks you will either need to get up close and personal and use the RPG-43 Grenade! – as we talked about when it was presented . Or see if you can get your hands on a bazooka or a panzerschreck!

Among the many new light tanks, Medium tanks, heavy tanks, weapons, uniform variations etc.that the Timoshenko update brings, a seemingly small update to the spawn rules is hiding. This will have a marked impact on the way you play the action game and help promote teamwork across the board.
For the first 10 seconds after a Car/Motorcycle/Halftrack or tank is spawned it now works as a mobile spawn!
But what does that even mean? Keep reading for more details!
Mobile spawn
Previously when choosing to spawn you could either choose to spawn in a vehicle (if available) or on foot and you would see a number of cars with one soldier honking the horn and waiting for others to jump in his car to go to the front. Now you can choose to spawn in a vehicle that is already spawned thus saving time and resources, in the same way that halftracks used to work for mechanized infantry.
This applies to:
Cars/Motorcycles/Halftracks/TanksSelection must be done within first 10 seconds of vehicle life – vehicles that previously allowed passenger spawn (like tanks & halftracks will keep allowing that as well)Player must have no spawn delay penaltyVehicle and player must come from same access-point (for defenders all central objectives count as one access-point).
Effect
By giving the players the option to spawn together in f.ex a car[/url], players will have the option to group together on spawn leading to a more wave-like spawn. Being able to spawn as a passenger in a vehicle will reduce the amount of time spent running towards the battle or the time spent looking for a bicycle to ride into battle. Mechanized infantry’s halftracks will of course still be available to spawn in, but not only for soldier in that exact Assault Team, but for everyone able to spawn on foot on that access-point. SO this will make mechanized infantry with their mobile spawns a lot more useful on the battlefield.

A feature that has been requested by the community for a long time is uniform variations for infantry. And since this has been requested for a long while, we found it prudent to start off by showing the variations for the German & American faction!
What about the Soviets I hear you ask? Don’t worry! More information about their uniforms is coming soon.
GERMAN
Straight from the designers in Berlin comes this season’s uniform variations. These variations are all based on the same soldier mesh for performance reasons. And rest assured we are also working on more variations (including character meshes) for the future.

From the textile mills to the foxholes! The American infantryman also has new threads available. And some soldiers even modified their own uniforms to better blend in with the terrain. Check out the new American Infantry variations below.

Soviet troops are marching! And beside (and behind) the tanks we have recently shown, infantry advances. These soldiers carry a selection of weapons, including SMGs, light machineguns & semi-automatic rifles. A crucial part of flanking is being able to keep your moves quiet, hence equipping a knife or shovel is a good way to kill some enemies without anyone knowing.
RPG-43
The RPG-43 Anti-Tank Grenade is THE weapon to take care of any tanks bothering you. The special thing about these weapons is that they explode on impact. To avoid the weapon being too powerful against infantry, it only kills an infantry on a direct hit.
NR-40
The ultimate stealth weapon. The NR-40 knife, treat with care or you might cut yourself! Used in the right way it can slice your enemy wide open without making any noise.
Vulcan Shovel
The shoveling begins. Meet the soviet shovel Vulcan. Upon unlocking this stealth killer you may equip it to join the shovel competitions.

So how do I get my hands on one of weapons? The NR-40 Knife becomes available at Close Combat 5th Grade. You can gain experience in this ribbon by equipping the Vulcan Shovel which is available right away.

Soviet troops are marching! And beside (and behind) the tanks we have recently shown, infantry advances. These soldiers carry a selection of weapons, including SMGs, light machineguns & semi-automatic rifles. Among them are the SVT-40 Semi-Automatic rifle and the PPD-40 Tier 1 Submachine-Gun.
The SVT-40 Semi-Automatic Rifle is a wide used weapon and has been effectively used in several wars. It uses a magazine of 10x 7.62×54mmR to kill any opposition it may face.
Statistics
Here you can see the precision and damage over range as the SVT-40 performs in game without any upgrades. Upgrades are of course available to help you change the semi-automatic rifle to YOUR personal playing style. Here is a

Variations
If you want to personalize the rifle, a selection of different stocks are available in the store, like for its German/American counter-parts, you can see those below.
PPD-40
This 71-round Sub-Machine Gun is the tier 1 Sub-Machine Gun. Being produced around 90.000 times it has seen a lot of action in World War II. Its design is very similar to the MP28.
As you can see in the damage graph the gun isn't as accurate as a SVT-40, but it does the job.

If you want to personalize the SMG, a selection of different stocks are available in the store,.
So how do I get my hands on one of these killing machines? The SVT-40 is the initial starting rifle for your Soviet Infantry soldier. The PPD-40 will unlock for use at rank 1!

The Timoshenko Update not only brings us Soviets with their tanks and weapons, but also a new feature called Resource Pooling.
What Resource Pooling does is to take the resources brought to a battlefield and pool them, this allows for players to spawn from all the Assault Teams present for which type they have characters, and eliminates the situation where, for example, Two Motorized Infantry teams are present and one is completely wiped out (costing the owner a fair chunk of Warfunds), whereas the other only loses maybe 5 spawns. In Timoshenko the losses (AND the wins) will be distributed evenly between the ATs present.

So to reiterate what happens is:
Defending ATs are placed on the center of the battlefield.Friendly ATs reaching a location with an assault battle can pass through and join the defenders at battlefield center.ATs placed on the center of town treat any friendly access-point on that battlefield as a possible retreat starting point.Newly deployed ATs are deployed on the battlefield center of friendly towns, not on access-points.The AT prioritized selection system has been removed.All ATs reaching a mission, are committed to the action game.Individual ATs do not show up in the action game – Squads are shown. This is a prerequisite for other features related to squads that we are working on for future updates!Each AT “type” per access-point is represented as a grouped “pool”, containing resources from all ATs of that type on the access-point.When action players spawn from these “pools”, the warserver randomly deducts spawns from one of the AT belonging to the pool.When a spawn from a “pool” kills another resource, the warserver randomly assigns that kill to one of the AT belonging to the pool.No more Assault Team depleted, when a single AT runs out of spawns

Soviet troops are marching! And beside (and behind) the tanks we have recently shown, infantry advances. These soldiers carry a selection of weapons, including SMGs, light machineguns & semi-automatic rifles, but a lot of them carry the bolt-action Mosin-Nagant 1891-30 rifle.
The Mosin–Nagant is a bolt-action, internal magazine-fed, military rifle, developed by the Imperial Russian Army in 1891, like the German Kar98, The American M1903 and the British Enfield it is one of those rifles that just keeps on going! It has been used by numerous nations, in numerous wars, by civilians for hunting and is still used for both hunting and target shooting, which just helps to prove it as a well-designed and effective weapon. It uses a clip of 5 7.62x54mmR rounds, and while it has a slightly more complex design than the German K98 they have very similar performance in the field.

Here you can see the precision and damage over range as the Mosin-Nagant performs in game without any upgrades. Upgrades are of course available to help you change the rifle to YOUR personal playing style. Here is a steam .
Scopes?
The Mosin-Nagant 1891-30 is also available in a scoped version for recon soldiers!
With the following precision/damage graphs. NOTE that while it looks less precise this is more than countered by the scope. The other 2 scoped rifles have the same profiles compared to their unscoped brothers.

This tank will be known as the tank which can't be sneaked upon. Besides the impressive cannon it has a MG on the back of the turret! You will be watched and shot at from all angles. This tank will wreck a serious numbers of enemy tanks on the battlefield.

&& A few Delphi and C++Builder developers who moved to 10.1 Berlin are wondering what happened to the VCL Ribbon controls and how to get them. Here is the full story.
A Tale of the Fluent UI (or Office UI) && Let me start from the beginning, while trying to keep the story short. The Ribbon VCL controls offer an implementation, natively done in the VCL with no external dependencies, of Microsoft Fluent UI (also know as Office UI). Given Microsoft has a patent on this UI (debatable, I know) using the controls required to accept a license from Microsoft, originally available at
In the past RAD Studio installation alerted that accepting that license was required for legally using the controls. && Later on, Microsoft built an actual SDK (in Windows 7 and above, also back ported to Vista) to support building applications with the Fluent UI. So far so good. Afterwards, they retired the original license. Any developer who had already accepted Microsoft Fluent UI license can still build a clone UI, but developers cannot obtain that license any more. You can see this reported, among others, in Wikipedia at (computing): && The Microsoft Ribbon Licensing Page has been retired, therefore it is no longer possible to license the ribbon control from Microsoft. && This is why we had to pull the Ribbon VCL controls from the core RAD Studio product, as we have no way to grant all customers a license or indicate how to obtain one. This doesn't mean we are removing the controls completely. While we don't expect to have the Ribbon VCL controls as part of the product and covered by support, we are in the process of making the Ribbon controls available in the GetIt Package Manager, for any developer who has a valid license with Microsoft (something you have to determine yourself, of course). This was supposed soon after the 10.1 Berlin release, should be coming shortly.
Ribbon Future Options for RAD Studio Developers && Overall, though, this change of direction from Microsoft (which actually happens a few years back), requires rethinking the use of these controls. I'd offer 3 alternatives:
If you have a license and want maximum compatibility with existing code, you can keep using the existing Ribbon controls. Shortly we'll make the official package available on GetIt. We are also assessing how to keep fixing bugs and updating this library over time. This might involve the community. You can switch to using an implementation of the Ribbon SDK from Microsoft. One set of VCL controls wrapping that implementation and called Ribbon Framework is available in the
library and it is already hosted in GetIt (and was hosted also for 10 Seattle). This has no legal limitations, and the team might also need help to keep this project moving. And thanks to Joachim Marder and the team behind these controls You can consider moving away from the Ribbon UI. But this is more of a UI discussion I don't really want to focus on in this blog post. && As it should be clear from reading this blog post, it was never our intention to stop supporting the VCL Ribbon controls, but we don't have a way to do this legally for all of our customers. I know other component vendors have different interpretations of the legal status, but we did check with several sources (including directly with Microsoft) and we are convinced that there isn't another option. Once the VCL Ribbon controls will be made available in GetIt, consult with your legal counsel about using them. &&&& --
