&&& 要在短短的三十分钟内写出三百英文单词以上的独立写作文章,这对很多准备考托福的同学来说是个不小的挑战。许多考生常常对着托福独立作文的考题一筹莫展;也有些同学好不容易把文章憋到100词左右,但后边却无话可说了。人们常说Practice makes perfect (熟能生巧)。但是,托福题库里有一两百道题,近期考试又出现比较多的新题,显然,这么多的题目是不可能一一练过的。那么,有没有好办法让考生在非常短的时间内就能将一个并不熟悉的题目的写作思路建立并扩展开来呢?答案是肯定的。下面我就教大家托福独立写作思路扩展的&三步走&战略,让考生们步步为营,冲刺高分!
&&&& 第一步,铸建金字塔
《金字塔原理》一书已畅销30余年,被誉为&现代最棒的关于写作与思维逻辑的读物&。书里提到的写作与思维逻辑构建方法是对西方思维方式的总结,同时又潜移默化地影响了西方的知识群体。书的作者指出,文笔清晰的文章很容易看出来,因为这种文章都具有清晰的金字塔结构(pyramidal structure),而文笔不清晰的文章则总是不具备这一结构。要想写出让评分者中意的文章,第一步就是在自己的托福作文里铸建金字塔。
具体操作不难,就是把文章分为总(开头)--分(主体)--总(结尾),三个部分,这样,顺看、倒看都是金字塔。开头、结尾各一段,主体部分由并列的二至四段组成。同学们可以根据自己的实际情况决定中间部分到底写几段。下面,举一个托福真题的例子来说明金字塔的特征。题目如下:A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory? Explain your position. 在写这个文章时,可以考虑采取下列结构:
&&&&主体段内的结构可以是:总(段首句)--分(细节句群)--总(段尾总结句)。在时间仓促或者需要控制段落字数的时候,可以考虑将&段尾总结句&省略。
&&&&第二步,摆出我理由
近期,托福独立作文题多以&同意不同意&的形式出现。比如,&你是否同意以下说法:小孩子应该学习音乐和艺术?& 很多同学觉得回答&同意&或&不同意&是比较容易的,但是要说清楚&为什么&,就要动许多脑筋了。现在我给大家介绍的&万能理由&(参考资料为高等教育出版社出版的《新托福写作高分策略》),能够快速启发同学的思维,达到短时间内文思泉涌的效果。万能理由就是:(与人相关)交流,利他,情绪,性格,经验,乐趣,健康,成就;(与物相关)方便,安全,经济(实惠),效率,环境,耐用。背记每个词的第一个字,将它们连起来便是:&交利情性,经乐健成;方安经,效环耐。&这些理由就构成了你的主体段,通常每段写一个理由就好。当然,就像刚刚说到的那样,要在段落里适当填充细节句群。
现在,我们看看对于刚刚提出的托福作文题,万能理由是否有帮助。音乐和艺术,可以是人们交流的话题、谈资;可以舒缓紧张的情绪、修身养性;可以培养兴趣;音乐还可以治病,比如许多心理医生采取音乐疗法;另外,钻研音乐和艺术还可以成就大师,比如举世闻名的钢琴家、画家等等。你看,这样一来,托福独立作文就不怕没话可写了!
如果还不过瘾,你可以再学一招。想想家人、朋友;个人、集体;中国、外国;政治、经济、文化、教育、科技、法律等。这样,你的思路是不是开阔了很多呢?
&&&&第三步,秀秀词和句
如果结构、理由问题顺利解决了,那么还剩下一个重要的问题--作文的遣词和造句。英文单词、句式繁多,不能在这里一一解释说明。请同学们记住两个原则:第一,不用口语化的表达。托福写作应该尽量使用书面语。第二,在正确的前提下,争取用别人可能想不到的表达方式。你想,如果大家都用简单的、千篇一律的词句,那高分该给谁呢?高分表达必须正确且与众不同。比如,很多同学喜欢用&a lot&这个词组,但这个词组毫无新意,又过于口语化,实在不是什么上乘之选。其实,书面语中用来表示&许多&的表达很多,我们可以酌情使用。比如,&许多失误&,我们可以说&a multitude of blunders&,这就比&a lot of mistakes&要好很多。另外,我们可以用&benefit us greatly/enormously/considerably&来替换平庸表达&benefit us a lot&。再者,想说&learn a lot from&的时候,可以考虑改用&draw important lessons from&等。这类例子不胜枚举。在平时的学习中,建议同学们多积累书面用语,碰到不认识的单词,可以使用&朗文在线词典&(),对照例句来学习、模仿单词的用法。除了词语的储备之外,同学们还可以着重复习并运用主语从句、同位语从句、强调句、倒装句等高分句型,适当背记一些诸如&It is an unassailable fact that.。.(这是一个主语从句,表示&。..是毋庸置疑的。&)类似这样的好句型,应争取在写作中能信手拈来。在写作中将漂亮的词语和句型秀一秀,也不失为扩充文章、冲刺高分的好思路。

I might say this in a kinda mean way, that&s because we are such close friends as I said before , and this may be a sort of abnormal way that I express my friendliness to someone who is also friendly to me .&
When it comes to the position I apply for today, what I truly want to say is that I like the area of Education more than any other field. &Commencement Address at Stanford UniversitySteve JobsThank you. I'm honored to be with you today for your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. Truth be told, I never graduated from college, and this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation. Today, I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories.
The first story is about connecting the dots. I dropped out of Reed College after the first six months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out?It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife -- except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl.So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking, "We've got an do you want him?" They said, "Of course." My biological mother found out later that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would go to college. This was the start in my life.And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents' savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn't see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life.So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out okay. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes that didn't interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked far more interesting.It wasn't all romantic. I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms. I returned coke bottles for the five cent deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the seven miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example:Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn't have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating.None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the "Mac" would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, it's likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on that calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards 10 years later.Again, you can't connect the
you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something -- your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever -- because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path, and that will make all the difference.
My second story is about love and loss.I was lucky -- I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz1 and I started Apple in my parents' garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a two billion dollar company with over 4000 employees. We'd just released our finest creation -- the Macintosh -- a year earlier, and I had just turned 30.And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. And so at 30, I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating.I really didn't know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down -- that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me: I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over.I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the world's first computer-animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, and I retuned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple's current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together.I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometime life -- Sometimes life going to hit you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love.And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking -- and don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking -- don't settle.
My third story is about death.When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I've looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything -- all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure -- these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 inthe morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn't even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor's code for "prepare to die." It means to try and tell your kids everything you thought you'd have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes.I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumor. TOEFL写作tips
关于写作,非牛人者都认为难以拿到满分。是不是牛人以后再说,牛人不需要解释。下面是关于托福写作的一些tips:
  第一、巩固语法。
  建议看赖世雄的&托福高分语法&;此书不长,可在10天年看完一遍。此书的功效是可让菜鸟在10天内领会必要的托福写作文法及阅读中遇到的文法问题,如长句子的分析。看完此书,你会认为自己的英语水平提高了一个阶梯,不仅仅是作文方面。
  第二、加强单词的熟悉程度。
  建议用王玉梅的单词表(excel版),其实,每个不同的单词表版本都不完美,比如大家背单词的进程不一样,对同一个单词的理解能力及熟悉程度不一致。建议自我完善下载下来的单词表。另外,有人认为,背完单词也就完了,该复习其他部分了,可以完全不用再背了。其实,偶不同意这个观点,根据人的遗忘规律,当时记得再牢的词语,过一段时间都会忘掉一些。复习IBT不是一天、两天或几个星期能搞得定的(除非牛人),大家需要从一开始背单词一直支持到考试前一天,就算到后来一天看一点,也比不看强。
  关于此表的用法:偶按照杨鹏记忆法的规定把王玉梅的词汇表分为21个lists,就在表里最前面一列。大家可以根据杨鹏记忆法结合玉梅词汇表操练。偶背了不到半个月已经背完,而且不易忘,非常有效!
  前两点是基础。如果具备这两点的朋友,你们可以进入第二阶段的练习&&熟悉范文。
  第三、建议看李笑来的高分范文。
  有些人在看范文的时候太过于注重好词好句,反而忽略了ETS对学生最主要、最重要的要求就是文章结构及论点和论据好坏与否。ETS的考官不在乎你的观点是反对呢还是赞成,或prefer哪一个观点,他们所在乎的是你的文章结构清楚与否,包括观点是否明确,对比是否宣明;在乎你的论点是否支持你的观点,论据是否有力。
  偶在此最主要的就是谈论文章结构及如何写好论点,展开论据。
  第四、要观点明确 逻辑性强
  基于T 友们具有了丰富的词汇和语法的基础,写句子已经不是什么难事。但是,如何写好观点明确、逻辑性强及对比宣明的好文章,一是和个人知识及想象力的多少有关,例如,It has recently been announced that a new movie theater may be built in your neighborhood. Do you support or oppose this plan? Why? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer。
  你家附近将要建一个电影院。你同意还是反对,详细阐述支持你看法的原因。
  有些基础知识欠缺或者想象力不丰富的朋友,只会想到&&1,反对,为啥?太吵,人多;2,另一些人支持这个观点,为啥支持?方便,近。他们在几分钟能想到也就这么多了。如何提高想象能力呢?在短时间内我们也无法提高很多,但是我们可以用一些常规的思维去思考&&连锁想象法。例如,如果反对此观点,电影院能让我们想到什么不好的地方?从修建开始想&&破坏绿化,如果它建在咱们附近原来是草坪的地方呢?在施工的时候有很多噪音、污染环境等等问题;从建好后想&&人来人往,太嘈杂,刚开张时,说不定有什么庆祝活动,人群拥挤,影响舍区的安静,还有很多很多大家都可以用这种连锁法想到。如果赞成的,方便,只需走路就可以看电影了;从走路又想到,节约路费及想到如果在上下班高峰期看电影的话,就可以避开人多的公共交通工具了。。。另外,有了电影院,除了可以看电影帮助消费者,另外可以有打工的机会,如卖票,小吃部工作&&帮助学生补贴boards。这些观点不外乎就是关于环境、社会关系、交通、学生、经济等等。
  第五、熟记范文
  在每次练习写作文前,看几篇和你想写的命题相关的范文,记一些例子和句式;另外,注意看范文里论点和论据是如何展开,以及写作思维,对比一下你自己的写作思维。 在写的时候一定要卡时间,超过30分钟就不要写了,反过来再看范文,对比一下。如果你没有写完,没有关系,总结经验最重要,分析一下为什么没有写完,是因为单词拼写耽误时间了,还是想不出来论点如何展开。多数人犯的是第二个问题,这个一是需要时间练习,二可以根据偶提供的办法解决。
  大家在审完题后(花2分钟想一下2-3个论点),把想到的论点在电脑上列个提纲。先把第一段,最后一段写完,及第二、三或四段的首句写完&&首句就是论点,每段的body都是围绕这几个点来。如此,既防止写不完的情况发生,又不会写偏题&&因为你在写首句的时候已经检查了和主题一致与否。把整个框架打好(在此申明,这个不是模板,模板太死板,虽然有它的好处,但是模板不能fit每个不同的命题),再来想论据去支持论点。 这一点就看个人的功底了。如果字数够了,没有犯过大的语法错误,无论文章内容丰富与否,至少不会低于20分了。
  字数最好控制在320-450之间,太多或低于300都不好。太多的话,除非你写得很到位,字字珠玑,否则有流水账之嫌。建议大家多精练句式和逻辑思维。句式不一定要很复杂,如很多从句之类的,这里指的是地道的英语表达方法; 文章中最好简单句兼插从句。精练句式有助于咱们提高写作水平和质量,不在乎写得多少,只求写得精及准确与否;逻辑思维可帮助我们很快的展开论据支持论点,有条有理,读者读着心情也舒畅。
  第六、咱们来分析一下常考的几个个题型应该如何展开吧。
  1、Agree or disagree/preference
  大家再练习作文的时候,一定会有个问题盘旋在你脑海,如果问题是问do you agree or disagree&。或do you prefer which statement or point&。。咱们是该全否定呢?全赞成的 还是中立?但是如果全否定或全赞成好像又太偏激;中立呢,又跑题了。
  都不妥!ETS不是SB,她出的题大部分98%是有争议性的,在众多的考生中有赞成的有反对的,她是见惯不惯了,一看咱们开始写反对或赞成,她就能机械化的对号入座,想都不用想就知道咱们写的什么理由;这样也有好处,至少不会认为咱们不是地球人,看咱们的文章也熟悉不费事。但是想在这种情况下得高分或满分却需要一定的功底和应试技巧。对于前一段提到的问题,如何写好Agree or disagree/preference题型呢?最好是按照一下格式来写。
  对于第一种题型-Agree or disagree有时确实不好完全否定一个而赞成另个观点,折中的方法就是,点题表明你的立场&&支持哪个,然后在文章中稍微带过关于你不同意的观点&&其实它也有些优点,不要说得太多。在结尾时再强调你自己赞成的那个观点,这样就perfect的。
  对于第二个题型-preference,最好只赞成一个写,实在是两个观点之间如果相关很大有很多共同点,都值得人们认为是对的,你也可捎带写一点另个观点的好处,但是着重强调自己的观点。
  对于这种题型,好一点的结构是:
  第一段:背景,然后点题,赞成(不赞成)或prefer哪个观点
  二:让步。用of course, for sure, 开头,引出你相反观点里很明显的优点(记住是很明显的,公认的优点),用一两句话写过。
  三:用nevertheless, however, in contrast,等引出你自己的观点,这才是正文。
  四:再加强支持你的观点
  五:结尾。
  在此,偶想提一下关于as far as I am concerned 或from my point of view这些句子的用法。
  这种引出自己观点看法的句式不是在每个命题里都可以用的。有些命题不能用,如,preference类,因为你已经支持了一个观点,从头到位都是用你自己的观点在说你所支持的那个观点,但后面就不要再说as far as I am concerned的话了,听起来就像,我喜欢苹果不喜欢香蕉,为什么? 因为XXX;根据我的观点,XXXX-。听起来是不是有些怪怪的?
  下面一片文章是按照以上结构写的一篇Agree or disagree:
131 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Only people who earn a lot of money are successful. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer。
  Obviously, a millionaire may be one of the successful tycoons who have numerous money and assets. They may readily swim in the commercial and political ocean since they are rich and powerful. However, it is superficial to simply say that only people who earn much money are successful. One could become successful by doing a big job if he or she bites the bullet in work and can be with a little luck to get the opportunity to fulfill his or her dream or mission。
  For sure, some people may argue that rich people are powerful, who are also successful. We have to admit that money is able to enrich people's physical lives and can be saved as incredible fortune to their descendants who may enjoy the brilliant lives for long time。
  However, it is hard to believe that rich people are only the samples or role models of successful people. Some scientists as Newton and Edison have contributed numerously to the world of international development in science, physics, biology, mathematics and so on. Most are not rich but successful. For many, they spent most of their time in the labs to do the experiments which were the processes that have been transformed dramatically from theories to practices. These processes have unbelievably changed our lives and world. On the other hand, most scientists always keep in mind to apply the financial grant from the governments or individual donors. So, are they successful because they are rich? I do not think so。
  Moreover, people who hold much money may become respectable but not successful by doing something meaningful. As all we know, money is not panacea, however, nowadays anything couldn't be done without money. Generally, anything will be done meaningfully with proper ways and a loving heart. For example, if people who are rich donate a bit of their savings to Hope School or financial institutions to help the poor children or disabled people, hence it may illuminate many children's or disabled people's lives and careers, and may totally change their lives. Probably, some of these children might become the great scientists or powerful tycoons in the future. Who knows? As a matter of fact, those who help the children or disabled people are lovely and respectable but not successful。
  Therefore, it is pretty clear that I disagree with the statement that only people who earn a lot of money are successful. As far as I am concerned, the value of success will be represented by many significant factors. Money is a little piece of rag of them, which can not be either overemphasized or ignored。
