The chart above shows the number of MS/MA candidates has been climbing over the past years. It has rocketed to 1.3 million in the year of 2005. People at different walks of life may ask why.
In the first place, we are living in an era of knowledge explosion. If we want to survive in the current society, we must have a good command of knowledge. Therefore, more and more people apply for MA/MS degree after their four-year college education. In the second place, nowadays, it&s difficult to find a good job just with a college degree. In order to find a better job, more people further their education.
Therefore, they would like to conduct further study instead of doing the work that they dislike. As a consequence, more and more people apply for MA/MS degree, which has led to the great increase of MA/MS candidates.

2) account for the status revealed, and
3) make a relevant prediction.

As is apparently showed in the chart above, the number of scientific breakthroughs over the past years in China has increased to 204 cases in the year of 2004, which is a shocking news to people both at home and abroad. People may wonder what is behind the great achievement.
The main reasons for this increase can be explained as follows. First, science and technology has become productivity. Over the years, more and more people realize that we are living in an era of knowledge explosion. If we want to survive and develop in the current world, we must keep pace with the development of science and technology. Thus, scientific breakthrough crop up by each passing day. Second, the Opening-up and Reform has also brought about the increase of scientific breakthroughs. It has improved the development of China&s economy, which has laid a solid foundation for the increase of scientific breakthroughs. In sum, both factors are the preconditions of the tremendous increase of scientific breakthroughs.
As our country develops fast, more scientific breakthroughs will come into our life.
26. Directions: A recent survey analyzed the change in number of film-goers and TV watchers in X city. Study the following graphs carefully and write an essay of about 150 words within 30 minutes. Your essay must meet the requirements below.
1. Interpret the graph
2. Give possible reasons for the change in the number of film-goers and TV-watchers.
3. Predict future prospect.
As is shown by the graph, there has been a sharp decline in the number of film-goers during the period from 1992 to 2002, adding up to 20,000 in 2002. On the other hand, the number of TV watchers has steadily increased in the last decade, reaching 150,000 in 2002. Finally, it is interesting to note that there were as many film-goers as TV watchers in year 1998.
I think there are two reasons for the change. Firstly, TV is not only a convenient entertainment, but a comparatively cheap one. There is no point in arranging transport. And one needn&t pay for expensive seats at the cinema. Secondly, TV makes it possible for one to keep track of current events and the latest developments in science and technology. As a consequence, most people prefer to stay at home, watching TV, rather than go out to the cinema.
Personally, there are still a lot of people who enjoy watching films. They argue that the film is a fascinating form of art. Sitting comfortably in the cinema, one can appreciate the latest movies, which will usually be shown on TV far later on. Therefore, I trust the number of film-goers will be on the rise in the future.
27. Directions:
